New River Gorge Bridge (West Virginia)

The New River Gorge Bridge is one of the most photographed places in West Virginia. The bridge was chosen to represent the state on the commemorative quarter released by the U.S. Mint in 2006.  It is a sight to behold!

There's a very nice, steep boardwalk
down to get a better view of the bridge.

The bridge is a structure of amazing statistics:  3030 feet long. 876 feet high. 70 feet wide. 88 million pounds of U.S. Cor Ten steel and American cement.  (I didn't go out and measure it; I got this info off the Internet.)  Opened and dedicated on October 22, 1977, the span has since become the symbol of West Virginia.

It was such a pretty day!

Narcissistic Self-Portrait!

I forgot that as many stairs as I went down,
I'd have to go back up them!

There is a beautiful visitors' center for the New River Bridge that is run by the National Park Service.  There are a lot of activities, not only at the Bridge but all along the River in different areas.  There were picnic areas, hiking trails and all kinds to things to do and see.  You could spend several days here and not see everything there is to see!
